Marlies Henderson has a diverse work experience in various roles and positions. Marlies started in 2010 as a freelance writer for multiple publications. In 2013, they became an elected Town Meeting Member for the Town of Billerica, where they also served on the Planning Board and Conservation Commission. During their time with the Town of Billerica, they organized local open space walks and coordinated the Blue Trails Program. In 2015, they joined the Town of Billerica Conservation Commission as a member and served for six years. Marlies also worked as the Bay Circuit Trail Committee Regional Coordinator for the Appalachian Mountain Club from 2013 to 2020. In 2018, they briefly worked as the Community Preservation Committee Administrator for the City of Malden. Throughout their career, Marlies has demonstrated expertise in outdoor activities, trail stewardship, community involvement, and project coordination.

Marlies Henderson obtained a Bachelor's degree in Business, Management, Marketing, and Related Support Services from Hotel Management School Maastricht from 1979 to 1982. Marlies also earned a Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) in Hospitality Management from Zuyd Hogeschool | Zuyd University of Applied Sciences during the same period. In 2012 to 2014, Marlies attended Middlesex Community College MA, focusing on English Language and Literature.
