Sarah Nurmela currently serves as the Director of Planning & Development for the Town of Erie since March 2022. Prior experience includes the role of Planning and Implementation Manager for the City and County of Denver from November 2019 to February 2022, and Downtown Westminster Real Estate & Development Manager for the City of Westminster from August 2011 to November 2019. In that capacity, Sarah managed the design, planning, and development of a significant mixed-use project covering 2,000,000 square feet. Other key positions held include Principal Planner for Long Range Planning & Urban Design in Westminster, Senior Associate at Dyett & Bhatia, Urban Designer at Goody Clancy, and Architect Intern at Zimmer Gunsul Frasca. Sarah holds a Master of Urban Planning and Design from Harvard University Graduate School of Design and a Bachelor of Architecture from Washington University in St. Louis.
