James Hardison III is an experienced Utilities Project Engineer currently employed at Smyrna Utilities since October 2019. In this role, James manages the AMI meter reading system for gas and water, overseeing all aspects including maintenance, operations, alarming, reporting, and coordination with billing. Previous experience includes working as a Pharmacy Infusion Technician II at Nashville General Hospital, where James compounded and distributed various medical items, and as a Certified Pharmacy Technician at Vanderbilt University Medical Center with similar responsibilities. Additional experience includes a Stormwater Apprentice position at Rutherford County Planning & Engineering Department and as a Mechanical Engineer Assistant at Hennessey Industries, Inc. James holds a Bachelor of Engineering in Civil Engineering and a Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry from Tennessee State University, along with an Associate of Arts and Sciences in General Studies from Bonozon Healthcare Pvt Ltd.

The Town of Smyrna operates under the Council-Manager form of government. This type of local government combines leadership of elected officials as members of our governing body, the Town Council, with the managerial experience of an appointed local government manager. This structure establishes a representative system where all power is concentrated in the elected council and where the council hires a manager to oversee the delivery of public services. In Smyrna’s government, Council Members are the policy makers elected to represent the community and to concentrate on policy issues that are responsive to the needs of its citizens. The Town Manager is appointed by the Town Council to carry out policy, to lead the staff of Directors and Managers of all Town departments, and to ensure that the entire community is being served.
