Aaron L. started their work experience as a Correctional Officer at the Colorado Department of Corrections in August 2003. Aaron then became a Parole Officer from August 2004 to November 2006. In December 2006, they joined the Town of Windsor Colorado as a Police Officer until December 2012. From January 2013 to July 2015, they worked as a Detective, followed by a promotion to Sergeant from July 2015 to December 2019. Aaron L. then served as a Commander starting from January 2020 and is currently in the role of Acting Chief of Police since June 2023.
Aaron L. has a diverse education history in the field of criminal justice. Aaron obtained a Master of Public Administration (MPA) with a focus on Criminal Justice Administration from Columbia Southern University. Prior to that, they earned a Bachelor of Science (BS) in Criminal Justice and Criminology from Metropolitan State University of Denver. Aaron also holds a Graduate Certificate in Criminal Justice from the University of Virginia.
In addition to their formal education, Aaron has pursued various certifications to enhance their skills and knowledge. These certifications include completing the Police Academy and achieving a POST Certification from Northeastern Junior College. Aaron has also completed the FBI National Academy, Session #284, and the Rocky Mountain Command College at the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). Other certifications they have obtained include the Executive Management Program from Northwestern University Center for Public Safety, the Command and Staff Leadership program from the National Command & Staff College, and the Succession Planning program from the Larimer County Sheriff's Office.
Furthermore, Aaron has completed multiple training programs and obtained certifications related to incident command systems, public information officer awareness, property and evidence room management, roadside impaired driving enforcement, forensic interviewing of children, and crime scene investigations. Aaron has also been certified as a police background investigator, police field training officer, standardized field sobriety testing instructor, and a National Traffic Incident Management (TIMs) Responder, Train the Trainer.
