Ashok Ramadass

Senior Director, Machine Learning at Toyota Connected India

Ashok Ramadass has a diverse work experience spanning over multiple companies and roles. Ashok started their career as a Summer Intern at Central Leather Research Institute in 2005. In 2007, they interned at Mercedes Benz Research and Development, India, where they applied algorithmic techniques in Matlab and C to extract contours from images. Ashok then worked as a Software Engineer at Cerner Corporation, where they developed functionalities for a hospital automation product using VC++ and Cerner Command Language.

Following that, Ashok joined The University of Texas at Dallas as a Research Assistant, where they worked on video human motion recognition using machine learning and feature extraction algorithms. Ashok gained hands-on experience with OpenCV and Weka libraries during this time.

In 2010, Ashok became the Director of Engineering at Image Vision Labs. Ashok led the research and development of software solutions for real-time audio and visual media recognition and moderation. Their responsibilities included pioneering machine vision, advanced artificial intelligence algorithms, and visual object recognition techniques. Ashok also worked on various modules, including nudity detection, copyright and brand protection, face detection, facial recognition, and more.

From 2017 to 2020, Ashok worked at Toyota Connected North America. Ashok first held the position of a Senior Machine Learning Engineer and later became a Principal Machine Learning Engineer. During their tenure, they contributed to machine learning projects and played a key role in developing cutting-edge solutions.

Currently, Ashok is employed by Toyota Connected India. Ashok started as an Associate Director of ML in December 2020, then became a Director of Machine Learning in April 2022 and is currently serving as a Senior Director of Machine Learning from April 2023.

Ashok Ramadass began their education at St. Mary's Higher Secondary School in Karaikal, where they completed their 10th grade degree. Ashok then attended Thanthai Periyar Government Higher Secondary School in Karaikal from 2001 to 2003, where they pursued a 10+2 degree in Maths, Physics, Chemistry, and Computer Science. After completing this degree, Ashok went on to Birla Institute of Technology and Science, Pilani, where they earned a Bachelor's degree (B.E(Hons)) in Electronics & Instrumentation. This spanned from 2003 to 2007.

Ashok then furthered their education by obtaining a Master's degree (MS) in Computer Science, specializing in Computer Graphics and Animation. Ashok attended The University of Texas at Dallas from 2008 to 2010 to complete this degree.
