Jan Dohnal

Jan Dohnal has a diverse work experience in the field of trademark law and intellectual property. Jan has worked as a Senior Trademark Lawyer & Business Development Associate at Trama since October 2022. Prior to this, they were employed at the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO) from December 2020 to June 2022, where they served as a Subject Matter Expert in the Operations Department, specializing in the area of Absolute Grounds for Refusal (AG). During their tenure, they also coordinated and provided content for the AG eLearning project.

Jan also gained valuable experience at the International Trademark Association (INTA), where they held multiple roles. From January 2020 to December 2021, they were a member of the Anti-counterfeiting Committee, contributing to the evaluation of treaties, laws, and regulations related to anti-counterfeiting. Jan also participated in policy development and enforcement education initiatives. From January 2018 to December 2019, they served on the Young Practitioners Committee, developing services and programs for young professionals in the field of trademark law.

In addition to their work at INTA, Jan worked at EUIPO from September 2019 to September 2020. Jan was part of the Operations Department, specifically involved in the Pan-European Seal Programme, where they handled procedures related to European Union trade marks, international registrations, and registered Community designs.

Prior to their time at EUIPO, Jan gained practical experience as a Junior Associate at SEDLAKOVA LEGAL from May to September 2019. Jan also worked as a Paralegal in the IP & IT Department of SEDLAKOVA LEGAL from October to December 2018, focusing on trademark law, including trademark applications, Nice classification, oppositions, and communication with foreign trademark attorneys.

Earlier in their career, Jan had internships at Bermeo & Bermeo Law Firm in 2017, where they had the opportunity to work with renowned trademark professionals and handle international brand portfolios. Jan also interned at GRÜNECKER in 2017, where they gained experience in EU Trademark Law, drafting oppositions, applications for invalidity and revocation, and conducting extensive research on proof of use and counterfeit enforcement.

Jan's passion for trademark law was evident even during their academic years. Jan served as a European Student IP Ambassador for the International Trademark Association (INTA), promoting trademark law and organizing a conference on trademarks and geographical indications. Jan also worked as an IP Legal Researcher at Masarykova univerzita Brno, where they conducted research on absolute and relative grounds for refusal of trademark applications.

Jan Dohnal's education history begins in 2012 when they enrolled at Masaryk University Brno to pursue a Master's degree in Law and Legal Science. In 2016, they attended the Faculté de Droit, d’Économie et de Gestion, although it is unclear whether they earned a degree or studied a specific field during this time.
