Winnell Newman

Winnell Newman has a long and varied work experience, beginning in 1983 when they became a member and past membership secretary for GWIS. In 1988, they took on the role of lab manager and grad student at UNC-Greensboro. In 1991, they became the lab manager and researcher for the NCSU Genetics Department. In 1994, they were appointed director of the Nucleic Acids Facility at NCSU. In 2003, they became the lab manager and researcher for the Biochemistry Department at NCSU in the Dr. Carla Mattos Lab. In 2007, they were appointed Manager of Student Programs at NC State BTEC. In 2016, they became Green Zone Trained at NCSU. In 2000, they co-founded and became a consultant for Trana Discovery, Inc., a proprietary drug discovery technology platform. Since 2019, they have been a STEM education adviser and Linked In Networking facilitator for Winnell Newman.

Winnell Newman attended the University of North Carolina at Greensboro from 1983 to 1991, where they earned a BS and MS in Biology, Plant Evolution and Phylogentics, Systematics, Genetics, and Biotechnology. Prior to that, they attended the University of Louisville from 1970 to 1974 and was close to completing a BS in biology, biochem, chem, and psychology.
