Hayden Burgoyne

Director of Engineering at Trans Astronautica Corporation

Hayden Burgoyne has a diverse work experience in the field of aerospace engineering. Hayden started their career as a Summer Researcher at Occidental College, where they conducted research on the electrochemistry of self-assembled DNA monolayers and the effects of a chemotherapeutic drug on DNA. Hayden continued their education at Harvard University, where they worked as a Student Researcher and conducted independent research on the fabrication process of actuators and flex-circuits for millimeter-scale flies and microrobots. Hayden also worked on investigating the growth of conductive polymer nanofibers using microfluidic devices.

After completing their undergraduate studies, Hayden joined The Aerospace Corporation as a Summer Hire. There, they designed an autostereoscopic 3D display and developed an infrared reflector to improve incandescent light bulb efficiency. Hayden also performed analyses and modeling for mechanical engineering projects.

Following that, Hayden worked as a Space Technology Research Fellow at NASA, contributing to space technology research. Hayden then pursued a PhD at the California Institute of Technology, where their research focused on metamaterials for protection from high-velocity impacts. Hayden received several awards for their PhD dissertation.

Hayden continued their career at Analytical Space, first as a VP of Spacecraft Systems and later as a Special Advisor. Hayden provided valuable expertise in spacecraft systems and acted as an advisor to the company.

Their next move was to the NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory, where they worked as a Systems Engineer. There, they played a crucial role in the development and implementation of various systems.

Currently, Hayden holds the position of Director of Engineering at Trans Astronautica Corporation. Hayden also served as the Head of Space Mission Formulation and Deputy Head of Flight Systems in the same company.

Hayden Burgoyne pursued their education primarily in the field of aerospace, aeronautical, and astronautical engineering. Hayden started their academic journey at Harvard University, where they earned their S.B. degree in Engineering Sciences, with a specialization in Mechanical and Materials Engineering. Following this, they attended Caltech, where they completed their Master of Science (M.S.) in Aerospace, Aeronautical, and Astronautical/Space Engineering. Hayden Burgoyne further deepened their knowledge in this subject area at Caltech and obtained their Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree.
