Thomas Kohl

Thomas has over 24 years of experience as a German qualified international lawyer practicing commercial and corporate law with a broad background in managing complex projects and ventures for multinational clients across multiple jurisdictions.

Besides his key areas in corporate and commercial law, M&A, restructuring and insolvency law, Thomas has particular expertise in international contracts law, intellectual property and labor law related issues pertaining to M&A transactions.

Thomas has been extensively involved in incorporating and establishing new businesses for international clientele in the form of stand-alone new corporate entities or joint ventures in many countries.

He has also played a leading role in restructuring distressed companies and in managing turnarounds. He frequently acts as court appointed expert in insolvency matters, insolvency administrator and trustee in Germany. Over the past decade he has also been entrusted with advising and overseeing all legal and commercial aspects of complex construction projects.

Prior to joining Transatlantic Law International, Thomas successfully built up the international practice of Tiefenbacher, a major German corporate firm with multiple offices in Germany, in his position as an equity partner and Managing Director of the firm's International Division and head of its cross-border M&A/Due Diligence taskforce for more than 12 years.

He is a graduate from the University of Heidelberg and has worked for over 14 years with the University's Institute of Private and Economic International Law.

He also has successfully completed a two year part-time executive MBA with Bradford University (UK 2004) and holds a Postgraduate Diploma in International Business Law (PGD) from Liverpool John Moores University (UK 2005). He speaks fluent English as well as German.
