William van Polen

William van Polen is a highly experienced aviation professional, currently serving as Captain for Smartwings since May 2025. With a career spanning decades, William has held various roles at Transavia since March 1995, including Crew Resource Management Instructor, Theoretical Knowledge Instructor, Flight Safety Instructor, and Captain of the Boeing 737. In addition to aviation, William owns and instructs at Het EHBO Huis and Emergency Response Trainers, while also working as a self-employed Type Rating Instructor for the B737 since November 2019. A committed firefighter engineer for Veiligheidsregio Noord-Holland Noord from August 1984 to June 2025, William's educational background includes a Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from MTS/MEAO Hoorn and ongoing training in emergency response and first aid.
