Katie Ballard serves as the Chief of the Capacity Building Division in the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) at the U.S. Department of Transportation, a role held since August 2011. Ballard leads efforts to translate behavioral safety research into practical applications within the highway safety community, focusing on disseminating NHTSA research and evidence-based programs. Previous positions within NHTSA include Special Assistant to the Associate Administrator for Research and Program Development, Senior Advisor in the Office of the Deputy Administrator, and Highway Safety Specialist in the Impaired Driving Division. Ballard also held the role of Senior Advisor at the White House Office of National Drug Control Policy and served as Director of Government Relations at the Foundation for Advancing Alcohol Responsibility. Educational background includes a Bachelor's Degree in Psychology from William & Mary.
