Caner B.

Caner B. has a strong background in IT security and privacy management. Caner is currently the Director of Privacy and Security at Transportation Investment Corporation since May 2023. Previously, they worked as the Assistant Director of IT Security at BC Pension Corporation from January 2018 to April 2022. Before that, they held various roles at the Government of British Columbia, including Director of Information Management, Security & Privacy from October 2015 to January 2018, Information Security Manager from February 2012 to October 2015, Senior Security Analyst from January 2011 to February 2012, and Security Architect from July 2006 to January 2011. In addition, Caner has experience in leadership roles, serving as the Past President and President of ISACA Victoria Chapter from June 2011 to June 2012 and from June 2010 to June 2011, respectively. Prior to their career in Canada, they worked as a Software Test Designer at Schneider Electric in Victoria from September 2005 to July 2006, and as a Network Engineer at Sierra Wireless in Richmond from July 2004 to June 2005. Caner started their career in Turkey, working as a Systems Engineer at Planet IT from February 2000 to June 2000, and at InfoNet IT from January 1999 to November 1999. Caner also served as a Research Assistant at the University of Victoria from January 2002 to June 2004.

Caner B. completed a Bachelor of Science degree in Electronics Engineering from Istanbul University between 1995 and 2000. Following this, they pursued a Master of Applied Science degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Victoria from 2002 to 2004. In 2004 to 2005, they undertook IT Certification Courses at The University of British Columbia.

In terms of certifications, Caner obtained a variety of industry-specific qualifications. Caner achieved a Microsoft Certified: Azure Fundamentals certification, a Microsoft Certified: Azure Data Fundamentals certification, a Microsoft Certified: Azure AI Fundamentals certification, and a Microsoft Certified: Security, Compliance, and Identity Fundamentals certification all in May 2022. In February 2023, they obtained the Attacking and Defending Azure Cloud: Beginner's Edition certification from Altered Security and the Microsoft Certified: Security Operations Analyst Associate certification from Microsoft. Additionally, in November 2022, they attained the Attacking and Defending Active Directory: Beginner's Edition certification from Pentester Academy.

Caner has also pursued a range of professional development courses. Caner completed Leadership Foundations, Leading Projects, Managing for Results, Project Management Foundations: Communication (2014), Project Management: Rescuing Troubled Projects, Time Management Fundamentals, Leading Productive Meetings, Leading Productive One-on-One Meetings, and Project Management: Solving Common Project Problems through Lynda.com. Moreover, they finished Coaching and Developing Employees and Executive Leadership through LinkedIn and Improving Your Focus through LinkedIn.
