Claude Bunick has a diverse and extensive work experience in the insurance and reinsurance industry. Claude started their career as an intern at Guardian Life Insurance in 1993. Claude then worked as an Actuarial Assistant Senior at ISO from 1994 to 1995. Following that, they served as an Actuarial Analyst at Sorema Re, North America from 1995 to 1997. During this time, they gained experience in pricing traditional treaty reinsurance as well as nontraditional catastrophe and weather products.
Bunick then joined Zurich Re (later known as Converium) as an Assistant Secretary in 1997, where they priced traditional and nontraditional reinsurance products and served as a member of the Global Catastrophe Securitization Team. In 2001, they joined Swiss Re as an Associate Director, providing quantitative support and product design to the Energy Industry Practice. Claude priced various risk products, including volumetric-risk hedge products and credit default swaps.
In 2002, Bunick joined Guy Carpenter as a Managing Director. Their responsibilities included designing and structuring capital and reinsurance transactions, specializing in insurance-linked securities. Claude also provided advisory services in enterprise risk management, capital modeling, and rating agency capital and capital structure. During their tenure, they co-developed, patented, trademarked, and marketed the CWIL® analytic framework used for county weighted index loss based catastrophe reinsurance/ILS products.
Bunick's most recent role was at Transatlantic Reinsurance, where they served as the SVP, Global Head of Property Pricing, and Actuarial. Their responsibilities included portfolio building, profitability and optimization for catastrophe exposed property business. Claude developed catastrophe model loss adjustment/modification framework and priced proportional and non-proportional reinsurance products. Claude also designed and developed the TransRe Catastrophe pricing, roll-up, and risk management system.
