Kate Sappell

Project Manager at Travel Oregon

Kate Sappell has had a varied and successful career. Kate began in 2012 as a Women and Gender Studies Facilitator at the University of Oregon, where they facilitated dialogue on difficult topics in women and gender studies and created a safe space for students to engage in critical consciousness conversations. In 2015, they began working for the Democratic Party of Oregon as an Events and Operations Intern, and also began working for Multnomah County as an Executive Assistant and Constituent Relations for the Office of County Commissioner Diane Mckeel. In this role, they coordinated correspondence with constituents, organized speaking opportunities, and engaged with media on issues relating to houselessness, land use, transportation, animal services, and many other county policies and ordinances. In 2017, they started working for Travel Oregon as a Project Manager and Regional Cooperative Tourism Program Coordinator, responsible for the delivery of the Regional Cooperative Tourism Program including the planning, implementation, and management of a variety of programs that engage communities and businesses in the development of regional priorities. Kate also worked cross-functionally with external and internal stakeholders to ensure the execution and strategic elevation of a variety of signature tourism marketing and management projects across the state.

Kate Sappell attended Immaculate Heart High School from 2006 to 2010. Kate then went on to receive a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) in Political Science from the University of Oregon in 2014. In November 2021, they obtained a Project Management Certificate from Portland State University’s Center for Executive and Professional Education (CEPE).
