Michael Cavanaugh has a diverse work experience in the hospitality and tourism industry. Michael started their career as a Marketing Assistant at the University of Vermont in 2009. Michael then worked as an Event Coordinator at The Essex, Vermont's Culinary Resort & Spa from 2009 to 2011. Following this, they joined DoubleTree by Hilton Portland as a Convention Services Manager from 2011 to 2014, and later as a Senior Convention Services Manager from 2014 to 2015. Currently, they are working at Travel Portland, where they have held multiple positions including Convention Services Manager from 2015 to 2021, Senior Convention Services Manager from 2021 to 2023, and is presently serving as the Director of Community Engagement & Visitor Facing Services.
Michael Cavanaugh completed their Bachelor of Science degree in Public Communication from the University of Vermont, where they studied from 2005 to 2009. In 2008, they also participated in a Study Abroad program at Richmond, The American International University in London, focusing on Design and Applied Arts. Prior to their university education, Michael attended New Fairfield High School from 2001 to 2005. In addition to their formal education, they have obtained several certifications, including a Leadership Development Certificate from Oregon State University in June 2019, a Certified Meeting Professional designation from the Convention Industry Council in August 2017, and a Digital Event Strategist certification from PCMA in December 2020.
