Yakov Pechersky

Director of Computational Design at Treeline Biosciences

Yakov Pechersky has a diverse work experience. Yakov is currently the Director of Computational Design at Treeline Biosciences, where they focus on how computation can impact drug discovery, leads a subteam, and connects scientists to the scale of computation. Prior to this, they worked as a Scientific Associate at D. E. Shaw Research from 2016 to 2021.

Yakov also worked at Ginkgo BioWorks, Inc. as an Organism Designer, Organism Engineer, and Organism Engineering Padawan. In these roles, they developed and delivered organisms for various industries, interacted with different prokaryotic and eukaryotic strains, developed bioinformatic tools, and automated biochemical experiments.

Before Ginkgo BioWorks, Yakov was a Thesis Researcher in the Balskus Lab at Harvard University. Yakov conducted research on biosynthetic pathways of natural products, characterized compounds, cloned and sequenced DNA, and developed a computational algorithm.

As an Undergraduate Researcher at Harvard University, Yakov worked in the Shakhnovich Lab, where they studied the relationship between protein activity and stability. Yakov analyzed proteins and conducted in vitro assays.

Yakov also gained experience as a Project Assistant at the Siegal Lab at New York University, where they used high throughput microscopy to study yeast phenotypes and regulatory networks. Yakov developed software to analyze cell images and processed large amounts of microscopy data.

In the early stages of their career, Yakov was a Head Researcher in the Advanced Mentorship Program at the University of Pittsburgh. Yakov created an agent-based model of inflammation and sepsis based on immunology principles.

Overall, Yakov Pechersky has expertise in computational design, drug discovery, organism development, biosynthetic pathways, protein analysis, microscopy, and agent-based modeling.

Yakov Pechersky's education history includes attending Harvard University from 2009 to 2013, where they earned an AB degree in Chemical and Physical Biology. Prior to that, they attended New York University in 2008 and 2009, focusing on Mathematics. Yakov also attended Stuyvesant High School from 2005 to 2009. In 2007, they briefly studied Molecular Medicine at the University of Oxford.
