Peter Reynolds

Senior Advisor at Treliant

Peter Reynolds, a Senior Advisor with Treliant, is a global transformational risk and compliance executive with over 30 years of experience holding C-suite roles at Fortune 100 multinational financial services companies and Big 4 accounting firms. Peter is recognized for his deep risk expertise in banking and FinTech operations, including regulatory requirements and expectations and crisis management on a global scale. He is a former bank regulator (OCC) and trusted advisor to business heads, CEOs, and boards on tactical and strategic responses to regulatory sanctions and emerging risk issues. He has a proven record of leading organizations through challenging periods, most notably during the 2008 financial crisis and its aftermath. A preeminent risk and regulatory expert, Peter has interacted with all major federal and state banking regulatory agencies on remediation matters. He brings deep corporate governance experience through his work with corporate boards.

As Managing Director, Peter helped lead and substantially developed Deloitte & Touche’s cross-functional FinTech practice and served on the executive committee. He advised global financial services institutions and FinTech companies on building risk and compliance programs. Recognizing wallet limitations for FinTech companies, Peter identified the synergies between operational risk and compliance and created a single enterprise-wide program. As a sought-after writer, he has co-authored many white papers on risk and compliance, with several featured in the Wall Street Journal’s Risk and Compliance Journal.

Peter directed the successful integration of Citibank’s largest bank acquisition in Asia: KorAm Bank in Seoul. His ability to negotiate cultural and regulatory differences was recognized by the local labor union and regulators, the Federal Reserve Bank, and the management and board. In addition, he was instrumental in leading the bank’s corporate work-out efforts in Western Europe for state-owned airlines. Subsequently in New York, Peter assumed a leadership role in Enron’s court appointed credit committee on behalf of Citibank.

As Chief Compliance Officer at Royal Bank of Scotland (RBS), Peter integrated the compliance functions of ABN-Amro Bank and remediated a global cease and desist order by regulators for anti-money laundering practices. His ability to manage crisis extended to the world’s largest data breach (at the time) by Worldpay, where he successfully led remediation efforts with all 50-state attorney general offices, the FBI, bank regulators, and management and board, regaining the company’s reputation and enabling its sale.

Post RBS, Peter assumed the position of Chief Risk Officer at Barclays Wealth Americas, a newly created position, responsible for U.S., Latin America, and Canada where he built a comprehensive credit and operational risk organization. As a member of the Executive Management Committee, he established the governance required for outsourcing to third-party vendors in India, created a New Products Approval Committee with requisite independence, assessment capabilities and change management requirements, and collaborated with the business to establish a risk appetite framework and agreed risk acceptance criteria.
