Sajad Abavisani is a Graduate Research Assistant at the Georgia Institute of Technology, involved in projects focusing on the intersection of causal learning and deep learning since August 2020. Additionally, Sajad contributes to the TReNDS Center, working on causal structure learning and machine learning applications to analyze fMRI data for understanding brain region interactions. Prior experience includes serving as an Undergraduate Researcher at the Cognitive Computing Lab at Ferdowsi University of Mashhad, where Sajad designed a neural network for detecting hand gestures in amputated hands, and completing an internship in the Machine Learning/Computer Vision Lab, implementing eye pupil and gaze detection tools. Sajad is pursuing a Doctor of Philosophy in Electrical and Computer Engineering at Georgia Institute of Technology, having also earned a Master of Science in the same field and a Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from Ferdowsi University of Mashhad. Education began at the National Organization for Development of Exceptional Talents, with a focus on mathematics and physics.

TReNDS Center
TReNDS is focused on developing, applying, and sharing advanced analytic approaches and neuroinformatics tools that leverage brain imaging and omics data with a goal of translating these approaches into biomarkers that help address relevant areas of brain health and disease. Large-scale data sharing and advanced data-driven and machine learning methods as well as multimodal data fusion techniques are the underpinnings of our approach.
