Molly E. Thompson

Partner at Tressler

Molly E. Thompson is a partner in Tressler's General Defense and Litigation Practice Group. Molly’s practice is focused on school liability (including Title IX and Section 1983), municipal liability, financial services litigation and contractual disputes. Molly is known for her wide range of general litigation experience. Her clients include schools, municipalities, public officials, financial institutions, product manufacturers, individuals and corporations. Molly uses her breadth of experience to help clients foresee complications and achieve their objectives.

Molly moved her practice to Tressler in 2023 after practicing for 16 years at a national law firm, where she handled a wide array of civil litigation matters from the trial court level through appeal.

Molly has been a dedicated advocate in the provision of pro bono legal services, including through, among other matters, representation of clients obtaining asylum in the United States, a client subject to removal proceedings in a Seventh Circuit appeal (resulting in a reversal of the underlying judgment on an issue of first impression) and a client asserting claims for denial of adequate medical care in prison, including a broad policy and practice claim against the prison’s health system that survived a summary judgment motion, resulting in a favorable settlement for her client.

Molly is also committed to mentoring the next generation of attorneys. At her previous firm, Molly served as the Chicago Office’s Hiring Member, led the Chicago Summer Associate Program and led the firm’s Women’s Business Initiative for a region covering five of the firm’s offices.

Prior to law school, Molly worked as a paralegal in the Investigation Division of the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office, where she investigated economic crimes and prepared for trials in complex white-collar criminal cases.

Molly was named to the 2023 Best Lawyers “Ones to Watch” List and honored in the 2022 “Notable Women in Law” feature in Crain’s Chicago Business.
