David Schmit

David Schmit has over 40 years of work experience in the legal and intellectual property fields. David began their career as a Senior Electronics Engineer at Cincinnati Electronics, where they designed and commercialized military electronics equipment and managed project teams. David then worked as an Associate Attorney at Mechley & Mechley Co. LPA and later at Melville Strasser Foster & Hoffman. In 1976, they joined Frost Brown Todd as a Partner, Intellectual Property Attorney, where they provided leadership and guidance for the firm's IP practice group. During their time at Frost Brown Todd, they counseled organizations on various IP issues, drafted and negotiated IP agreements, and represented clients before the USPTO. In 2015, they transitioned to Intelligrated as the Senior Vice President Corporate Intellectual Property, where they migrated the company's global IP practice in-house, managed an in-house IP team, and developed a global IP strategy. In 2018, they worked as an Intellectual Property Consultant at David E. Schmit, Attorney-at-Law before assuming their current role as the Chief Legal Officer at Trew LLC.

David Schmit has a Juris Doctor (JD) degree from Salmon P. Chase College of Law. David also holds a Masters of Science in Electrical Engineering (MSEE) degree and a Bachelors of Science in Electrical Engineering (BSEE) degree, both from the University of Cincinnati. In terms of certifications, David is licensed as an Attorney-at-Law in Ohio and is also a licensed Patent Attorney with the United States Patent & Trademark Office. Additionally, they have been admitted to practice before the Supreme Court of the United States, the Supreme Court of Ohio, the Courts of Appeals for the Fourth, Fifth, Sixth, and Federal Circuits, as well as various U.S. District Courts including the Southern District of Ohio and the Western District of Michigan.
