Christopher Yohn, Ph.D.

Executive Director, Head of Computational Biology at TRex Bio

Christopher Yohn, Ph.D. has a wealth of experience in the field of computational biology and bioinformatics. Christopher began their career in 1988 as a Research Associate at Northwestern University for Principal Investigator Richard F. Gaber, Ph.D. In 1990, they worked as a Research Technician at Washington University for Principal Investigator Roger N. Beachy, Ph.D. Christopher then attended The Scripps Research Institute from 1991 to 1996, where they were a Doctoral Graduate Student for Principal Investigator Stephen P. Mayfield, Ph.D. From 1996 to 2002, they worked at The Skirball Institute at NYU Medical Center as a Post-doctoral Scientist for Principal Investigator Ruth Lehmann, Ph.D. During this time, they led and coordinated a team of 8 in a large scale genetic screen in Drosophila. From 2002 to 2008, they worked at Favrille, Inc. as a Bioinformatics Scientist - Senior Manager. Christopher'sresponsibilities included playing a driving role in the selection and implementation of a data management and automated analysis system, designing and implementing an internal bioinformatics website, and working directly with the Vice President of Information Technology and Director of Molecular Biology on the implementation of a Manufacturing Execution System. From 2008 to 2015, they worked at Sapphire Energy as the Director of Biotechnology. Christopher'sresponsibilities included developing a strategy and providing leadership for the creation of a commercial process for omega oil production, leading gene discovery and protein evolution efforts for yield improvement and yield protection in algal species, and progressing multiple algae strains from lab to field. In 2015, they began working at UNITY Biotechnology as the Senior Director of Discovery Technologies. Christopher'sresponsibilities included setting and implementing bioinformatics strategy for discovery efforts, leading efforts for the discovery of biomarkers for multiple disease indications, and advancing knowledge of aging mechanisms and cellular senescence via OMICs and other technologies. In 2021, they began working at TRex Bio as the Executive Director and Head of Computational Biology. Christopher'sresponsibilities include building and leading a team of computational biologists, data scientists, machine learning engineers, and software developers, providing strategy and implementation oversight for all informatics efforts, and leading the creation of an in silico discovery engine for target ID and validation. Christopher also began working at Faith & Work Journey in 2021 as a Board Member.

Christopher Yohn, Ph.D. obtained their Ph.D. in Macromolecular and Cellular Structure and Chemistry from Scripps Research between 1991 and 1996. Christopher earned a B.S. in Biomedical Engineering from Northwestern University between 1987 and 1991. Christopher also obtained a Certificate in Bioinformatics from UC San Diego in 2006 and a Certificate in UNIX System Administration from UC San Diego in 2004.
