David Ferguson

Head of Network Planning at Trooli

David Ferguson has a diverse work experience spanning several companies and roles. David is currently employed at Trooli as the Head of Network Planning, a position they have held since October 2021. Prior to that, from June 2021 to October 2021, they worked as a Senior Planning Architect at Trooli.

Before joining Trooli, David worked at BT as a Network Forecast Specialist from April 2020 to June 2021. David also has extensive experience at Openreach, where they held the role of Business Solutions Manager from September 2014 to April 2020. In this role, they were involved in delivering superfast broadband solutions to rural communities through contracts with BDUK. David was responsible for deriving speed and coverage models, providing deployment plans and costs, and forecasting contract outcomes.

David's tenure at BT dates back to 1986, where they held several positions. From January 2008 to September 2014, they led a team of telecoms migration engineers responsible for operation designs and test and diagnostics capabilities. From December 1999 to December 2007, they led the planning role for BT's Transborder Pan European Network, involving the design and planning of a carrier-grade transport network. David also had responsibilities for equipment planning and capex budget controls. Lastly, from September 1986 to November 1999, they worked as a Research and Development Engineer, specifically focusing on Optical Fibre networks for the Local Loop and the development of field-useable test equipment and operations and maintenance practices for Passive Optical Networks.

David Ferguson attended Heriot-Watt University from 1982 to 1986, where they earned a BSc (Hons) degree in Physics.
