Trust for Governors Island
Sarma Ozols is a seasoned horticulture professional and accomplished photographer with extensive experience in both fields. As Horticulture Supervisor at the Trust for Governors Island since May 2021, Sarma oversees the stewardship of a 2.5-acre planted landscape, while previously serving as Zone Gardener and Seasonal Gardener. Since 2000, Sarma has operated as a freelance photographer, focusing on stock photography, author portraits, and landscape documentation, with notable contributions to Getty Images and various charitable organizations. Additionally, Sarma founded Sarma & Co. Photography in 2012, specializing in wedding photography with a reputation for capturing authentic moments. Educational credentials include a Certificate in Horticulture from Brooklyn Botanic Garden and current studies at the School of Professional Horticulture at the New York Botanical Garden, complemented by a rich background in photography from esteemed institutions.

The Trust for Governors Island is a nonprofit corporation created by The City of New York that is responsible for the redevelopment and operation of 150 acres of Governors Island. The Trust’s mission is to transform Governors Island into a vibrant resource for New York City, making this island at the center of New York Harbor a destination with extraordinary public open space, as well as educational, not-for-profit and commercial facilities.
