Sharmila Menon-Nair

Sharmila Menon-Nair has a diverse and extensive work experience in the field of compliance and regulatory management. Sharmila currently holds the position of Director & Chief Compliance Officer and Company Secretary at TruStage Life of Canada, where they are responsible for overseeing and managing regulatory compliance issues. Previously, they worked at Ontario Provincial Committee, Air Cadet League of Canada as a Squadron Director. Prior to that, they worked at Assurant as a Compliance Director and Senior Compliance Specialist, where they led the compliance program within specified business units and provided guidance and strategy for compliance-related processes. Sharmila also has experience at Gore Mutual Insurance as an Assistant Corporate Secretary & Privacy Officer, at Empire Life as an Ombudsman & Regulatory Liaison and Director of Corporate Compliance, at CISV Canada as a National Program Coordinator, at The Economical Insurance Group as an Ombudsman and Corporate Responsibility Officer, at The Equitable Life Insurance Company of Canada as an Individual Compliance Analyst and Ombudsman, at Manulife Financial as a Legislation Analyst, and at Mayban Life Assurance Berhad as an Executive in Legal and Compliance. Throughout their career, Sharmila has demonstrated their ability to ensure compliance and develop positive working relationships with regulators, industry associations, and colleagues.

Sharmila Menon-Nair's education history includes a LL.B (Hons) degree in Law from the University of East London, which they completed from 1991 to 1993. Sharmila also obtained a Chartered Secretary certification in Corporate Governance from Chartered Secretaries Canada, completing it from 2014 to 2016. In 2012, they earned a Project Management certificate from the University of Waterloo. Sharmila also completed an Executive Leadership and Development program at Queen's University in 2010. Before pursuing their degree, they completed their A-Levels at Methodist College from 1986 to 1988.
