Bjorn Marsen

Director Of Process Engineering at TruTag Technologies

Bjorn Marsen has worked in various roles in the fields of process engineering and scientific research since 1994. Bjorn's work experience includes an internship at Siemens in 1994, a postdoctoral fellowship and assistant researcher position at the Hawaii Natural Energy Institute from 2000-2008, a process engineer position at Bosch Solar CISTech from 2011-2014, a principal scientist position at Akamai Metrics Consulting from 2014-2014, and a director of process engineering and manager of process engineering position at TruTag Technologies, Inc. from 2014-present. Bjorn's roles have included refinement of baseline processes of porous silicon-based products, overseeing development of new porous silicon-based products and their production process, development of new quality control methods and calibration methods thereof for GMP compliance, thin-film PV (CIGS) R&D with focus on absorber layer process, thin film metrology/characterization of CIGS films, correlation of film properties with performance and stability aspects of cells and modules, development of novel doped wide-bandgap chalcopyrite materials for intermediate band solar cells, fabrication of CuInS2, CuInGaS2 and Cu2ZnSnS4 (CZTS) by physical vapor deposition process, characterization of structure and optoelectronic properties of thin films, and performance of solar cells, thin film materials research for photovoltaics and photoelectrochemical hydrogen production, CuInGaSe2 (CIGS) thin-film PV technology, optimization of component layers (Mo, CIGS, CdS, ZnO, ITO), and fabrication of WO3 films by sputtering and structural, optoelectronic and electrochemical characterization.

Bjorn Marsen obtained a Ph.D. in Physics from the University of Hawaii at Manoa between 1996 and 2000. Prior to this, they obtained a Diplom in Physics from the University of Kassel between 1992 and 1996. In addition, they have obtained two certifications, an AWS Fundamentals: Going Cloud-Native certification from Coursera in January 2019 and a Certified LabVIEW Developer certification from National Instruments in August 2014.
