Senior Software Engineer at Sparrow

Keenan Komoto has worked in a variety of roles since 2011. In 2011, they worked as a Summer Intern for the City of Kent, performing a variety of tasks ranging from data entry, SEPA/JARPA applications, GIS, and manual labour at natural resource areas. From 2014 to 2018, they worked as an Undergraduate/Graduate Researcher and (Senior) Graduate Teaching Assistant at Western Washington University, where they published a research paper on novel computational work and developed a deep understanding of computational chemistry methods. In 2018, they attended the Recurse Center to gain exposure and a depth of knowledge in backend/data engineering and worked as an Independent Contractor for Pioneer Square Labs, where they analyzed debt collection data and implemented front-end features. Keenan also worked as an Organizer for the West Big Data Innovation Hub leading up to the Transportation Data Challenge event in Washington D.C. In 2019, they joined Oracle as a Software Engineer (Backend) and worked to revitalize a previously abandoned API, built with Java, Spring, and Kafka. Keenan also worked with a small sub-team on scaling an advertisement impression based pipeline using Python and Kafka. Keenan also developed a storage system for service configuration files using Consul, Python3, and GitLab CI/CD. Currently, they are a Senior Software Engineer at Sparrow.

Keenan Komoto earned a Bachelor of Science (B.S.) in Chemistry from Western Washington University in 2015, after having started in 2010. Keenan then continued their studies at the same university, earning a Master of Science (MS) in Computational Chemistry in 2017.
