The Turkish Red Crescent was born of a desire of a group of idealist Ottoman doctors to treat wounded and soldiers on the battlefield. The National Society, formerly known as "Ottoman Relief Society for the Wounded and Sick Soldiers", was funded on 11 July 1868. Later on in 1923, the Society was renamed as the Turkey Red Crescent Association and finally in 1947 the organization named Turkish Red Crescent.
