Bahadir Onalan is an accomplished technology leader with extensive experience in engineering, product management, and applied science. Currently serving as a Director at Amazon since January 2017, Onalan manages the Universal Classification Catalog and Universal Feature Catalog, overseeing billions of products and machine learning models. Previously held a Principal Software Group Engineering Manager position at Microsoft, where Onalan led the Azure Monitor team. Earlier experience includes contributions at Motorola as a Principal Staff Software Engineer, where Onalan worked on the JUIX smartphone architecture, and at Bridge Information Systems as a Principal Software Engineer. Onalan began a career in technology at TUBITAK, contributing to Turkey's first consumer Internet dial-up connection. Academic credentials include a Master’s degree in Computer Science from Indiana University Bloomington and dual Bachelor’s degrees in Computer Engineering and Mathematics from Middle East Technical University. Additionally, Onalan serves as a Board Member for Turkish Philanthropy Funds since May 2023.

TPF's mission is to help donors realize their philanthropic goals to meet community needs in the US and in Turkey. While making goals meet needs, TPF also supports innovative humanitarian projects that have the potential to create social change. We know that there is no single or simple answer to how social innovation occurs. We understand that social change is the result of a tremendously complex mix of ingredients: conditions (social, cultural, economic and environmental) and individual actors colliding to spark world-changing ideas. Therefore, to understand these conditions and to stimulate idea creation, we build relationships with everyone we collaborate with from grantees to strategic partners.
