Charlotte P. Morris

Dr. Charlotte P. Morris is the Interim President at Tuskegee University. She has served in a number of roles at the university for the past 32 years. In 2010, she was appointed by the Board of Trustees to serve for the first time as interim President for the period following the retirement of President Benjamin F. Payton and the appointment of President Gilbert L. Rochon. Prior to that appointment, she had served for 23 years as Executive Associate to the President (Chief of Staff) and Secretary to the Board of Trustees. In addition, during the last eight years of her tenure in this position, she also served as Director of the University’s Title III Program, and as Chair of Convocations and Special Events. Most recently, she has served as Interim Dean (one year) and as Associate Dean and Professor of Management in the Brimmer College of Business and Information Science, where she began her Tuskegee career in 1984. In 2011, she was appointed a member of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools’ Commission on Colleges visiting peer review team.

A native of Kosciusko, MS, Dr. Morris completed her undergraduate work at Jackson State University, where she received a B.S. degree in Business Education. The master’s degree was obtained from Delta State University in Cleveland, MS, and the Ph.D. degree in Education and Business Management was earned from Kansas State University in Manhattan, KS. She has done further study at the Harvard University Graduate School of Education’s Institute for Educational Management, Cambridge, Massachusetts. Additionally, she completed coursework in Higher Education Administration at Southern Illinois University-Carbondale, as well as summer institutes in Curriculum Development in Higher Education at Pine Manor College in Boston, Massachusetts, and the American Council on Education’s National Leadership Forum sponsored by the National Center for Higher Education in Washington, DC. Her research interests include leadership and the relationship between undergraduate degree majors and current jobs.

Dr. Morris’ professional career includes teaching appointments at Trenholm State Community College in Montgomery, and at Kansas State University. Other higher education experience includes serving as Program Associate for Planning, Management and Evaluation at Mississippi Valley State University.

A resident of Montgomery, Alabama since 1983, Dr. Morris is a Golden Life member of the Montgomery (AL) Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.; a member of the Agnes J. Lewis Women’s Club, where she serves as Vice President; and a member of The Lilly Missionary Baptist Church, where she serves on the usher board, as a Sunday School teacher, and as a member of the missions’ circle. Additionally, she holds membership in the Society for Human Resources Management (SHRM), Beta Gamma Sigma National Honor Society in Business, the Golden Key National Honor Society, the National Council of Negro Women and the American Council on Education.

Dr. Morris has received many honors and awards including, Leadership Montgomery-Class XXIX, Distinguished Administrative Staff Achievement Award at Tuskegee University, Bush Foundation Fellow, Service Award from the Charles Stewart Mott Foundation, and was listed in the 1992 edition of Who’s Who Worldwide. Upon completion of undergraduate studies, she received the “I Dare You” Award for qualities of leadership.
