Prior to this role, Dirk worked as a Test Engineer & Consultant at SNC-Lavalin Rail & Transit, delivering vehicle type testing and measurement services, and ensuring technical accreditation per ISO 17025. Dirk's experience also includes serving as a Specialist Engineer in Vehicle Dynamics at Bombardier Transportation, contributing to various passenger vehicle projects. An academic background includes a PhD in Vehicle and Maritime Engineering from KTH Royal Institute of Technology, complemented by degrees in Mechanical Engineering from Technische Universität Darmstadt, and a mountain leadership certification from Svenska Fjällklubben.
