David Starkey

David Starkey is an experienced editor and educator, currently serving as a co-editor of The California Review of Books since January 2020. Starkey has hosted "The Creative Community" on TV Santa Barbara since 2003. As a professor of English and Director of the Creative Writing Program at Santa Barbara City College from August 2000 to June 2021, Starkey founded the Creative Writing Program and directed it for 14 years. At North Central College from September 1995 to June 2020, Starkey held responsibilities in the creative writing program, focusing on the integration of creative writing and composition. Starkey began teaching at Francis Marion University from September 1990 to June 1995, where roles included Instructor and Assistant Professor of English, as well as coordinating events for the creative writing conference. Starkey holds an MFA in Creative Writing from Louisiana State University and a Master's in English from UCLA, complemented by a Bachelor's degree in English from the University of California, Davis.
