Johan Herland

Johan Herland has a diverse work experience spanning over many years. Johan currently works as a Developer Productivity Engineer at Tweag since September 2022. Prior to that, Johan worked at Cisco Systems as a Software Engineer for more than a decade, from October 2011 to September 2022.

Johan's earlier experience includes being an active participant in the Git Development Community as a Software Developer from May 2007 to November 2014. During this time, they were the primary author of the "git notes" feature, which allows attaching metadata to Git objects.

Before joining the Git community, Johan worked at Opera Software ASA. Johan served as a Core Developer from September 2007 to September 2011, where they developed the core infrastructure of the Opera Web Browser. Prior to that, they worked as a Unix Developer from July 2004 to September 2007, specializing in developing customized versions of the Opera Web Browser for mobile customers.

Johan also has experience as the owner of Herland Software, where they developed websites for customers from August 2004 to August 2011. Additionally, they worked at Queen's University as a Research Assistant from April 2003 to August 2003, contributing to a robotics and machine vision research project. Johan also served as a Teaching Assistant from January 2003 to April 2003, helping undergraduate students with laboratory assignments in a Data Structures and Algorithms course. Johan possesses strong programming skills in languages like C, C++, and Java.

Johan Herland pursued their education with a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Engineering from Queen's University, where they studied from 2000 to 2004. Prior to that, in 1999, they attended Viken Folkehøgskole for a year, focusing on music.
