Vassilis Angelis, PhD has extensive work experience in the field of data science and machine learning. Vassilis is currently working as a Machine Learning Engineer at a company called Two. Before joining the Financial Conduct Authority, Vassilis worked as a Data Scientist at Randstad UK where they developed and deployed a time series model for predicting Gross Profit. The model was implemented on a large scale, servicing approximately 700 instances, and ran automatically in production.

Vassilis also gained experience as a Data Science Manager and Statistical Modeler at The Open University. In their role as a Data Science Manager, they were responsible for expanding the Data Science capability within the Data and Analytics team. As a Statistical Modeler, they built customer-level supervised machine learning models using Microsoft Azure Databricks and Adobe Analytics data for Readiness, Propensity, Journey Optimisation, and Web personalization. Vassilis also created unsupervised models for Market Segmentation.

Additionally, Vassilis worked as a Data Scientist at HT2 Labs where they prototyped and deployed a LSTM model for semantic classification of textual comments. The model achieved an 89% recall rate and utilized technologies such as Keras, TensorFlow, AWS Sagemaker, and TensorFlow Serving.

Earlier in their career, they gained experience as an Implementation Consultant at Celaton, where they worked on implementing intelligent automation software that streamlined labor-intensive clerical tasks and decision-making using artificial intelligence and cognitive learning.

Vassilis started their career as a Junior BI Consultant at Dynamic-BI Ltd before moving on to work at The Open University as a Researcher in Computing. In this role, they conducted analysis and testing of neural network models that simulated human rhythm perception, designed and conducted experiments with humans, and performed statistical and parameter sensitivity analysis.

Vassilis Angelis, PhD, has an extensive education history in various fields. Vassilis began their academic journey in 2000 at the Technological Educational Institution of Athens, where they obtained a Bachelor's degree in Business Management in 2004. Following this, they pursued a Master of Arts degree in Creative Technologies at De Montfort University from 2008 to 2009.

In 2007 to 2008, Vassilis Angelis attended the University of York, where they completed a Master of Science degree in Music Technology. Continuing their education, they enrolled at The Open University, where they achieved a Bachelor of Science (Hons) degree in Mathematics and Statistics from 2010 to 2017.

Vassilis Angelis further enhanced their expertise by earning a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) degree in Computational Neuroscience from The Open University between 2009 and 2013.
