Conservation Programmes Manager at Twycross Zoo

Stuart Young is an experienced conservation professional currently serving as the Conservation Programmes Manager at Twycross Zoo since February 2024. Previously, Stuart held the position of Field Programme Manager for Southeast Asian Islands at Chester Zoo, where management of conservation projects and partnerships in Indonesia, the Philippines, and Malaysia was a key responsibility from February 2020 to February 2024. Experience also includes serving as Programme Officer for the IUCN Species Survival Commission's Asian Wild Cattle Specialist Group, coordinating conservation activities for various Asian wild cattle species between February 2018 and January 2020. Stuart's earlier roles comprise an internship at Chester Zoo focused on field programmes, schools coordinator at Operation Wallacea, work as an ecological sub-consultant, and contributions to barn owl surveys in Hungary. Educational qualifications include a Ph.D. in Ecology and Evolutionary Biology from the University of Nottingham, a Master’s degree from Imperial College London, and a Bachelor’s degree in Zoology with Conservation from Bangor University.
