Matthew Monroe

Matthew Monroe is a seasoned legal professional currently serving as Senior Associate Counsel at UMWA Health and Retirement Funds since May 2024. Prior to this role, Matthew was an Attorney at the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services from October 2020 to May 2024, focusing on the review of appellate briefs and medical records related to Medicare coverage and overpayment disputes. Previous legal experience includes positions as a Judicial Law Clerk at the Superior Court of the District of Columbia and as a Judicial Extern for Judge Richard Doyle on the Iowa Court of Appeals, among other internships in various legal firms and public defender offices. Matthew holds a Juris Doctor degree from Drake University Law School and has a Bachelor's in Political Science and Government from the University of Iowa, along with an Associate's degree from Kirkwood Community College.
