Timothy James Mulreany

Timothy James Mulreany is a seasoned legal professional with extensive experience in litigation and complex civil matters. Currently serving as Chief Trial Attorney at the U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission since September 2002, Timothy has a focus on complex derivatives market investigations and federal court litigation. Previously, Timothy was an Associate and Partner at Anderson and Quinn, LLC, from 1994 to 2002, specializing in civil litigation and arbitration. Early in the career, Timothy worked as a litigation associate at Carr Goodson and Lee, LLC, and served as a Judicial Law Clerk for Hon. Howard S. Chasanow. Timothy holds a Bachelor of Arts in History from Washington and Lee University, a Juris Doctorate from the University of Baltimore School of Law, and completed executive education at The Wharton School, along with a year abroad in East Asian Studies at Kansai Gaidai University.

The mission of the CFTC is to protect market users and the public from fraud, manipulation, and abusive practices related to the sale of commodity and financial futures and options, and to foster open, competitive, and financially sound futures and option markets. In pursuit of its mission, the CFTC investigates and prosecutes commodities fraud, including foreign currency schemes, energy manipulation and hedge fund fraud, and works with other federal and state agencies to bring criminal and other actions. The CFTC also engages in public education and outreach by participating in consumer groups and issuing Consumer Advisories and other educational materials.
