Reginald G. A. Neal

Assistant Secretary, Operations, Security, and Preparedness

Mr. Reginald Neal is from Ludowici, Georgia. He was appointed by the President of the United States in December 2025 to serve as the Assistant Secretary for Operations, Security, and Preparedness (OSP) in the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA).

In this role, Mr. Neal provides the Secretary of Veterans Affairs with insight and advice on the Department’s operational readiness, law enforcement, VA Police, security operations, and emergency preparedness nationwide. Mr. Neal brings a wealth of senior executive experience, with demonstrated leadership and management skills, drawing on his credentials as a retired Army General Officer, a senior federal civilian, an experienced public-school educator, and an executive consultant in emergency response and resilience.

While serving on active duty, Major General Neal was known for his expertise in homeland defense (including the Pacific homeland), Defense Support to Civil Authorities (DSCA) emergency planning and response, and collaborating strategic initiatives and operations with multiple federal agencies, including the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), the Department of Homeland Security, VA, and the Department of War; smoothing the way for productive combined joint interagency working relationships to improve cross-organizational communications and effectiveness. MG Neal retired from the Army following 37 years of uniformed service.

Mr. Neal is a tireless advocate for Veterans. Throughout his career, he has been a relentless advocate for Veterans issues, including addressing the concerns of Veterans that reside in the US Territories and across the Pacific. He remains an active member in the American Legion (GA Post 322) and the Veterans of Foreign Wars (GA Post 5408).
