Shimona Carvalho

Shimona Carvalho is a seasoned technology professional with extensive experience in digital services and software engineering. Currently serving as a Digital Services Expert at the United States Digital Service since June 2024, Carvalho previously led software engineering efforts at Truss from January 2020 to May 2024. A personal sabbatical between May 2018 and January 2020 involved traveling across six continents and living in 30 countries, while also engaging in freelance work for a small-scale Software-as-a-Service startup in the insurance sector. Prior roles include Director of Firmware Engineering, UI & Apps at Fitbit, where Carvalho managed teams to enhance user interfaces for smartwatches and trackers, Engineering Manager overseeing UI development for wrist-based devices, and Senior Engineer focused on the creation of Fitbit's first smartwatch UI. Carvalho's early career included significant roles at Qualcomm and Texas Instruments. Academically, Carvalho holds a Bachelor of Arts in Computer Science from Pomona College and a Master of Science in Computer Science with a focus on Interdisciplinary Human Computer Interaction from UC San Diego.
