Lamont Vernon

As Chief Security Officer, LaMont Vernon oversees Product Security, Uniformed Police and Physical Security Branches for the Government Publishing Office. He is also responsible for developing and managing the following comprehensive security programs: security/law enforcement, antiterrorism/force protection, physical, personnel, industrial, information and supply chain security to ensure secure printing materials, products, and waste is handled properly.

Vernon brings 26 years of security, law enforcement and antiterrorism/force protection experience to GPO. Vernon joined GPO as Director of Security in 2006 and has implemented Random Antiterrorism Measures and Operation “Night Owl” that drew praise by Metropolitan Police Department and North of Massachusetts Avenue Business Improvement District for reducing the crime rate around GPO. In 2008, he oversaw the security operation for the Presidential Inauguration Day Ticket Production; and the physical security requirements for the issuance of the Presidential Inaugural Law Enforcement Credential produced at GPO.

He began his career as a Security Specialist in the United States Air Force in February 1985. Vernon held every major security discipline in the Air Force and was promoted to the rank of Chief Master Sergeant and retired in March of 2005. As a Special Agent with the Pentagon Force Protection Agency, he provided sophisticated surveillance detection and antiterrorism measures to protect against threats to Department of Defense Facilities in the National Capital Region

He has a Bachelors of Science in Criminal Justice Administration from Park University; and graduated from the Senior Noncommissioned Officer Academy at the Air University.
