Chris LaBorde

Director, Ag Research & Development at U.S. SUGAR

Chris LaBorde began their work experience in 1996 as a Research Associate Specialist at the Louisiana State University Sugar Research Station. In this role, they were responsible for the commercial hybridization and production of sugarcane seedling populations, as well as managing a $2 million greenhouse complex.

In 2000, Chris joined the United States Navy Reserve as an LS1, a position they held until 2011.

In 2008, Chris joined Florida Crystals as the Manager of Agriculture R&D. Chris served as a technical advisor for the company's organic farming operation and was responsible for compliance to the rules and regulations of the National Organic Program. Chris also played a strategic role in planning organic sugarcane research and collaborated on researching biomass alternatives for New Hope Power Plant fuel source. Chris remained with Florida Crystals until 2014.

Currently, Chris LaBorde works as the Director of Ag Research & Development at the United States Sugar Corporation, a position they have held since 2014.

Chris LaBorde has an extensive education history. Chris earned their Bachelor's degree in Agricultural Business from Louisiana State University in 1994. Chris then went on to pursue further studies in Agronomy and Crop Science and obtained a Master's degree in the same field from Louisiana State University in 2001. Chris LaBorde continued their academic journey and completed their Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Agronomy and Crop Science from Louisiana State University in 2007.

Produces 650,000 - 700,000 tons of cane sugar a year, providing nearly 8% of the nation’s sugar production.
