Head Of Emirates Capability Development Unit at UAE Space Agency

Mohsen Al Awadhi is an accomplished aerospace engineering professional with significant experience in the space sector. Currently serving as the Head of the Emirates Capability Development Unit at the UAE Space Agency, Mohsen has also held key positions such as Mission Director for the Emirates Mission to the Asteroid Belt and Director of the Space Missions Department. Previous roles include Mission Systems Engineer for the Emirates Mars Mission and Senior Systems Engineer for MBZ Sat at the Mohammed Bin Rashid Space Centre. Early in the career, Mohsen worked as a Licensed Aircraft Technician at Emirates and held a position as a Medical Records Clerk at the Dubai Health Authority. Mohsen holds a Master of Science in Aerospace Engineering from the University of Colorado Boulder and a Bachelor of Engineering in Engineering Management from the Higher Colleges of Technology.

The UAE Space Agency has been created to lead, regulate and coordinate the UAE’s growing Space sector. The Agency will join the international Space community in promoting Space exploration and contributing to global scientific research and development. The Agency developed its strategic framework to guide the execution of its three mandates dictated by Federal Decree No. 1 of 2014, which include: 1. Developing the Space sector 2. Creating Space policy and regulation 3. Directing national Space programs that will benefit the UAE’s economy Consistent with its strategic framework, the Agency has identified priority initiatives that are critical to building world-class capabilities. These initiatives include cultivating a diverse and capable workforce and engaging key stakeholders to promote the nation’s space positions locally, regionally, and internationally. Our mission is to organize, regulate and support the space sector in the country and enhance its position in this area. We plan to encourage the development and use of Space science and technology in the country and advance within the industry. The establishment of international partnerships in the Space sector is crucial and our objective is to enhance the role of the state and its position in the space sector. To achieve its mission, the UAE Space Agency will recruit, hire, develop, and retain national professionals over the next three to five years. Employees will be supported by a robust internal Emiratization Training Plan.
