Mary Elings

Mary Elings possesses extensive experience in library and archival management, currently serving as the Interim Deputy Director at The Bancroft Library, University of California, Berkeley since September 1996. In this role, Mary oversees general administrative functions, including budget, human resources, and organizational leadership. Previously held positions include Assistant Director and Head of Technical Services, where Mary led operations in acquisitions, cataloging, and digital initiatives, as well as Interim Head of Technical Services, supervising a team of approximately 25 staff. Other noteworthy roles include Head of Digital Collections and Principal Archivist, responsible for strategic direction of digital assets, and various positions focused on digital archiving and pictorial collections. Mary also has experience as an adjunct faculty member at The Catholic University of America and Syracuse University, teaching courses on digital collections in cultural heritage institutions. Mary holds an MA from The George Washington University and a BA from the University of California, Berkeley.
