Hossein Soleimani has extensive work experience in the field of data science and engineering. Hossein is currently employed at UCSF Health as the Data Science & Engineering Lead, a role they have held since December 2022. Prior to this, they worked at UCSF Health as a Senior Data Scientist from September 2021 to December 2022, and as a Data Scientist from March 2019 to December 2021.
Before joining UCSF Health, Hossein worked at Johns Hopkins University as a Research Scientist, where they were involved in building and deploying machine learning-based clinical decision support systems for identifying and managing at-risk patients in hospitals. Hossein held this role from July 2018 to December 2021. Prior to that, they worked as a Postdoctoral Fellow at Johns Hopkins University from July 2016 to June 2018, with similar responsibilities.
Hossein's previous experience also includes working at Penn State University as a PhD Student from January 2012 to June 2016, where they conducted research and teaching assistant roles. Hossein also worked as a Teaching Assistant at Penn State University from January 2012 to December 2012, where they contributed to designing lab experiments for a senior-level course on digital signal processing.
In addition to their academic and research roles, Hossein has practical industry experience as a Machine Learning Intern at AIG. During their internship from June 2015 to August 2015, they applied natural language processing techniques to analyze insurance claims data and worked with big data platforms such as Hadoop and Apache Spark.
Hossein's earliest work experience was as a Visiting Student Researcher at the University of Rostock from July 2010 to December 2010.
Hossein Soleimani completed their education in the field of Electrical Engineering. Hossein obtained a B.Sc. from Ferdowsi University of Mashhad in 2008, followed by an M.Sc. from the University of Tehran in 2011. Hossein then pursued a PhD at Penn State University, which they completed in 2016. In addition, they obtained certifications in Probabilistic Graphical Models, Natural Language Processing, and Data Analysis from Coursera in 2013.
