Liviu Klein has a diverse work experience in the field of cardiology and advanced heart failure. Liviu is currently working at UCSF Health as the Director of the Advanced Heart Failure Comprehensive Care Center and the Director of the Mechanical Circulatory Support and Heart Failure Device Programs. In these roles, Liviu has developed protocols for VAD management, improved patient selection, and educated community physicians about advanced heart failure therapies. Liviu integrated remote monitoring features in the VAD program, resulting in a decrease in adverse events and cost of care.
Prior to their current position, Liviu worked at the University of California, San Francisco - School of Medicine as the Chief of Advanced Heart Failure, Mechanical Circulatory Support, Pulmonary Hypertension & Transplant, a Professor of Medicine, and the Director of Cardiology Clinical Research.
Liviu also had experience at Northwestern Medical Faculty Foundation as the Director of the Heart Failure Device Program, where they developed an integrated program in heart failure and cardiac rhythm management and implemented a remote heart failure follow-up clinic, resulting in improved patient care and decreased readmissions.
Before that, Liviu held several fellowships at Northwestern University, Feinberg School of Medicine, including Clinical Cardiac Electrophysiology, Advanced Heart Failure and Transplantation, Cardiovascular Disease, and Cardiovascular Epidemiology and Prevention.
Liviu started their medical career as a Resident in Internal Medicine at Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center and Spitalul Universitar de Urgenta Bucuresti - Emergency University Hospital.
Liviu Klein earned a Certificate in Management Skills for Innovative University Leaders from Northwestern University - Kellogg School of Management in 2010. Prior to that, they obtained a Master of Science in Clinical Investigation from Northwestern University in 2005. Liviu also holds a Doctor of Medicine degree from Universitatea de Medicină și Farmacie „Carol Davila” din București, which they received in 1998. In 1992, Liviu completed their undergraduate studies at Grigore Moisil Information Technology National College in Brasov, Romania, earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics and IT.
