Banu Maarouf has a diverse work experience in the field of international development and government agencies. In 2019, they worked as a Project Assistant at Oxfam IBIS, where they supported project implementation. Banu also worked as a Programme Assistant at the European Commission, specifically in the Unit B1 of DG DEVCO. In this role, they assisted in the pre-programming of the EU-UN Spotlight Initiative, drafting various documents and providing recommendations on gender equality integration. Currently, Banu is working at the Udlændinge- og Integrationsministeriet as a Senior Assistant/Overassistent, and they have recently taken on the position of Head of Section.
Banu Maarouf's education history includes a Master of Social Science (MSc) degree in Development and International Relations with a specialization in Global Refugee studies from Aalborg University. They also hold a Bachelor of Arts (BA) degree in Language and International Studies (English) from the same university. Furthermore, Banu participated in a study abroad program at San Diego State University, focusing on International Relations and Affairs.
Additionally, Banu has obtained certifications in project/programme management (CAST FG IV) from EU Careers by EPSO in June 2019, and PRINCE2® Foundation Certification Training from PeopleCert in January 2020.
