Suriyati Barnes

Suriyati Barnes is an experienced educational professional with a diverse background in instructional coaching, professional development, and mentoring. Currently serving as the Central Staff Brooklyn Field Liaison at the UFT Teacher Center since September 2012, Suriyati provides support for site-based coaches and facilitates professional learning sessions for instructional coaches across NYC. Previous roles include Academic Achievement Coach for grades 3-5 at the NYC Department of Education, where Suriyati focused on staff development in literacy and mathematics, and Teacher Mentor at the New Teacher Center, supporting the growth of new educators. Suriyati's foundational experience includes working as an Academic Intervention Teacher and Special Education Teacher within the NYC Department of Education. Suriyati holds multiple advanced certificates and degrees in educational leadership, urban education, and history, reflecting a strong commitment to professional growth and student achievement.
