Dr. Francis Xavier Bakehena

Dr. Francis Xavier Bakehena has extensive work experience in public health and medicine. Dr. Francis Xavier currently holds the position of Director Public Health at the Uganda Peoples Defence Forces (UPDF) since 2019. In this role, they provide professional leadership in preventive health to ensure the well-being of military personnel and their families. Prior to this, they served as Deputy Director Public Health at UPDF from 2019 to 2023.

Dr. Bakehena also worked as the Medical and Welfare Coordinator at the African Union from 2016 to 2019, where they played a crucial role in coordinating medical services and welfare programs. Similarly, they served as the Head of the Medical Component at the United Nations from 2014 to 2015.

Dr. Francis Xavier'scareer in public health started at UPDF in 2013, where they served as a Staff Officer Public Health for a period of six months. Dr. Bakehena's work experience demonstrates their commitment to public health and their dedication to ensuring the well-being of individuals in military and international organizations.

Dr. Francis Xavier Bakehena has a diverse education history spanning several years. Dr. Francis Xavier began their education at St. Joseph's Vocational School in Mbarara, where they completed their Secondary Level studies in Natural Sciences from 1985 to 1992. Dr. Francis Xavier then went on to attend Makerere University from 1992 to 1998, where they obtained a Bachelor's degree in Oral/Maxillofacial Surgery. Continuing their academic journey, Dr. Bakehena pursued a Postgraduate Diploma (PGDIMA) in General Management at Uganda Management Institute from 2005 to 2006. Demonstrating a commitment to enhancing their expertise in public health, they then attended Makerere University once again from 2010 to 2013 and achieved a Master of Public Health (M.P.H.) degree with a specialization in Health Systems. Overall, Dr. Francis Xavier Bakehena's education history showcases their dedication to continuously expanding their knowledge and skills in various fields.
