James A. Polo

James A. Polo, MD, MBA, serves as the Chief Medical Officer for the WA Community & State Health Plan at UnitedHealth Group since October 2025 and as an Executive Advisor for Mightier since May 2025. Prior experience includes holding the position of Vice President & Chief Medical Officer at Elevance Health, overseeing behavioral health integration for over 100 million covered lives. James has also worked as the Executive Medical Director for Regence BlueCross BlueShield of Oregon and Cambia Health Solutions, focusing on clinical strategy and integrated behavioral health services. Additional roles include Chief Medical Officer at Western State Hospital and various leadership positions in the US Army, culminating as Health Policy Advisor at the Pentagon. James holds an MD and MBA and has completed fellowships at the AHIP Executive Leadership - Medical Directors Fellowship and the United States Army War College.
