Shaun Downey is currently a PhD Researcher specializing in Explainable and Interpretable AI (XAI) at Ulster University, a position held since September 2025 as part of the DfE CDP Award in collaboration with Thales IAS. Prior to this, Shaun served as a Principal Application Developer at Fujitsu from September 2020 to September 2025, leading the development of large-scale applications for UK government departments. Experience also includes a role as Lead Application Developer at PA Consulting, where Shaun contributed to digital transformation projects for the National Health Service, and previous positions as a Full Stack .NET Developer at Foods Connected Ltd and a Software Developer at Budget Energy NI. Shaun holds a Bachelor of Science in Multimedia Computer Games and a Master of Science in Computational Intelligence from Ulster University, and has completed a CNNA1 certification from Northwest Regional College.
