Deepak Sampath

Deepak Sampath has extensive work experience in the pharmaceutical industry. Deepak began their career at Pfizer in 2001 as a Principal Research Scientist and worked there until 2006. After that, they joined Genentech, where they held various positions, including Scientist, Senior Scientist, and Principal Scientist. In these roles, they led research and early development programs in the Oncology therapeutic area and managed a team of research scientists. Since 2018, Deepak has been working at Ultragenyx Pharmaceutical Inc. Deepak started as Vice President and Head of Research, and later became the Senior Vice President in the same role. At Ultragenyx, they are responsible for leading research activities across multiple functions and therapeutic areas, focusing on drug discovery and early development. Deepak also plays a key role in establishing collaborations and partnerships, evaluating business development opportunities, and providing scientific and technical advice.

Deepak Sampath holds a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) degree in Biochemistry and Molecular Cell Biology from UC San Diego, which they obtained from 1985 to 1990. Deepak later pursued a Ph.D. in Molecular Cell Biology and Biomedical Sciences from the Washington University Graduate School of Arts and Sciences, achieving it between 1992 and 1998.
